A 4K walking tour through Miltenberg Germany located in Lower Franconia, Bavaria. Come discover the wonders of Germany from the comfort of home! In pre Roman times, circular ramparts (basically a large wall) were built on the Greinberg above Miltenberg. These were in use as early as the Neolithic period (around 4500BC) but were mostly date from around the Bronze Age (3300BC-1200BC). In around the 150s, the Roman Empire pushed outward its fortified border to the river Main (the river in this video). The town of Miltenberg was first mentioned around 1226 and was known as "Miltinburc". The timber framed houses date between 15th-18th centuries. If you look at the last few minutes of the video on the walk back, you can see where I zoom in on a couple dates on the outside of one of these houses. The date above the doorway dates back to the 1500s when the house was first built. After the shots of the town square where the musician is playing, at about 17:30 in the video, there is a large half timbered building with blue umbrellas out front. This is "Zum Riesen" (the Giant) which is one of the oldest hotels in the country, dating back to about 1411. Notable guests include Elvis Presley, two Holy Roman Emperors and leaders from both sides of the 30 years war. Honestly, there is so much history for this area that it is impossible to go over every single period. Human beings have been in this area since forever.
