Bhanjanagar is a town and a Notified Area Council in the Ganjam District in the state of Odisha, India. The town, earlier named as Russellkonda (Russell's Hill) after George Russell, President of then board of Revenue, was renamed later after Kavi Samrat (Poet King) Upendra Bhanja. Bhanjanagar is a planned community situated in the confluence of rivers Loharakhandi and Badanadi. Bhanjanagar is not famous as tourist destination. Though there exists few religious places There is a famous water reservoir located here. It is placed to the north of the city and it covers an area of 25 square miles. The cities like Chhatrapur, Berhampur and Ghumusar receive water from this reservoir for irrigation. It is one of the oldest water reservoirs in the state as its construction was finished in the year 1894. Lots of travelers come here to see the scenic view of the reservoir. Besides this place of interest, the travelers particularly who come for a family trip would like to visit Biju Patnaik Children's Park. It is a big park where one can enjoy toy train, playing instruments, science park, model zoo, boating, family train, 3D-Hall, aquarium, video games and a musical fountain. It is certainly an ideal picnic spot for the families. Apart from these travel attractions, a Shiva statue, the tallest in the entire Odisha, is also center of attraction in Bhanjanagar. It is placed at Beleswar Hill Top in the vicinity to the water reservo.
