Walking 46km Through New Zealand's Big Sky Country (POV) | Te Araroa Trail Day 74

I walked 46km through New Zealand's Big Sky Country on the Te Araroa Trail. This section begins near Methven and follows the Rakaia River Hazard Bypass through the Canterbury High Country before reaching A Frame Hut. After the difficult conditions of the previous sections, this day felt surprisingly straightforward. The route followed long stretches of Double Hill Run Road beside the Rakaia River. The terrain was mostly flat and easy to walk. The challenge wasn't the trail itself. It was simply the distance. For hours, I walked through open landscapes surrounded by mountains, wide valleys, and enormous skies. The scenery rarely changed, but somehow never became boring. The turquoise water of the Rakaia River remained in view for much of the day, while mountain ranges stretched across the horizon. It was one of those days where progress came steadily and the landscape did most of the talking. No talking. No music. Just footsteps, wind, birds, and the real sound of the trail. Distance: 46km walked (68km total including hitchhiking) Location: Methven → Te Araroa Rejoin Point → A Frame Hut Trail: Rakaia River Hazard Bypass / Te Araroa Trail 🎒 Full gear list https://lighterpack.com/r/kitnwb Subscribe to follow the full Te Araroa journey across New Zealand. #teararotrail #newzealand #rakaiariver #throughhiking #longdistancehiking #povhiking #solohiking
