Ep. 89 GLASS ON GLASS MOSAICS, and a pet memorial stone mosaic commission. A small round glass on glass mosaic mandala is the first project this week. I use some pre-cut donated cathedral glass in shades of blue. Using a white backdrop while working helps to see the true colors better. I use GE II Silicone adhesive and grout with a black sanded grout. Then I show how to wire the eggshell mosaic for hanging using D-rings and 50 lb. wire. Next up is a heart-shaped substrate from Skew.biz. Now I reach for the red cathedral glass from the donation boxes. Starting with the edges, I fill in using different textures and darker shades towards the edges. I sum up all the mosaic projects and start a pet memorial stone for a dog named Biscuit. The border is added with ballchain and E-6000. Then it is brought outside to air out and cure for a bit since E-6000 needs proper ventilation when used. The E-6000 shrinks a bit and makes it a clean edge that is easy to grout. Then ballchain lettering is added with Apoxie Sculpt snakes to give the letters some height. To keep things tight, I trim the excess Apoxie Sculpt off with an exacto knife. A pattern is made and cut out in an Opus Sectile style from my favorite glass - irridized confetti by Armstrong glass. Next, blue stained glass, chosen because it symbolizes loyalty, is filled in the background. Then the heart and the memorial stone are grouted together with black sanded grout. BONUS: I'm fighting a cold this week, but watching this video is NOT contagious.
