General structures: Body, pedicle, lamina, spinous process, transverse process, vertebral arch, vertebral foramen, transverse foramen, demifacets for ribs, facet for ribs, superior articular process, superior articular facet, inferior articular process, inferior articular facet. Distinguishing features: Atlas: anterior and posterior tubercles on the anterior and posterior arches respectively, and features of a typical cervical vertebra. Axis: dens or odontoid process, and features of a typical cervical vertebra. Cervical: transverse foramen, superior articular facets face posterior like a high-five, uncinate processes, triangular vertebral foramen. Thoracic: demifacets (on the body) for ribs, facets (on the TP’s) for ribs, round vertebral foramen, superior articular facets face posterior like a high-five.
