Initially, the group consisted of Cam'ron, Jim Jones, and Freekey Zekey, all childhood friends from Harlem. Later, in 1999, Juelz Santana, another rapper from Harlem, joined the group. In 2001, following Cam'ron's signing, they secured a recording contract with Roc-A-Fella Records. They began working on their debut album, Diplomatic Immunity, which was released in March 2003 under Roc-A-Fella Records. Due to conflicts between Cam'ron and Jay-Z, they parted ways with Roc-A-Fella Records and signed with Koch Records, a smaller label.
