Pastor Paul at Times Square Church

This powerful message centers on the liberating truth that Jesus did not die to make our bondage manageable, but to make freedom truly possible. Drawing from Mark chapter 5 and the story of the demon-possessed man living among the tombs, we encounter a vivid picture of how addiction and strongholds can take control of our lives. The man in the tombs lived in isolation among dead things—dead dreams, dead relationships, dead futures—just as addiction causes us to live among memories, traumas, and old patterns that keep us bound. What's striking is how this man hurt himself day and night, cutting himself with stones, mirroring how addiction causes us to harm ourselves physically, relationally, spiritually, financially, and mentally. We use substances or behaviors to escape pain, only to find they become the very prison that produces more pain. The breakthrough comes when this man has a spiritual encounter with Jesus, runs to Him, and worships. We learn that true deliverance requires four essential elements: a genuine spiritual encounter with Christ, practicing extreme humility through confession and accountability, discovering our God-given purpose, and learning to guard our hearts against the issues that led us into bondage in the first place. This isn't just about managing addiction—it's about experiencing the complete freedom that comes only through knowing Jesus Christ. #BreakingTheGripOfAddiction #TeenChallenge #TimesSquareChurch #transformation
