Why We Rejected a Ring Network for This Parking Lot CCTV Project？

A client came to us with a challenging parking lot surveillance project: 12 cameras mounted on 6 light poles, with the furthest pole located 150 meters from the control room. Their initial plan was to build a complex ring network using managed switches on every pole. While that approach would work, it also meant higher costs, more power requirements, and much more configuration. So we proposed a different solution. By using a PoE++ star topology, long-distance Ethernet extension, and a simple way to connect two cameras from a single cable run, we created a design that was easier to deploy, easier to maintain, and significantly more cost-effective.
