Cartoon Network UK - Continuity and Adverts - November 2000 (4)

Fred gets assaulted by a child as we move into the first ad break, and the final section of the tape. (Told you it was short.) The Cartoon Network logo has another game of chess and Cartoon Cartoon Weeknights struts its stuff in another promo. The usual adverts for Kellogg’s Variety and Pantene follow, right before an odd advert for Center Parcs, which uses a W.H. Davies poem to tell us how good their short breaks are. Somehow, I doubt the average British holidaymaker would appreciate this spot of culture. Seems a bit high class. Then, a PIF! (Cue dramatic music.) Interestingly, it’s for the Meningitis Research Foundation, and I remember this one absolutely scaring the shit out of me. Having suffered from a nasty case of both meningitis and septicaemia just two years before this aired, this PIF terrified me that I was going to contract it again, so I was always checking my body with a glass for any signs of a rash. Don’t you just love childhood hypochondria? The green M&M - probably not voiced by Cree Summer - chats up Dermot O’Leary again, followed by Barbie JESUS CHRIST MAN WHAT THE HELL IS THIS ON ALL THE TIME FOR? Then it’s a Dragonball Z advert again. Notably, the show is sponsored by Lego Software, despite, to my knowledge, no Dragonball Z Lego sets existing at the time. Such a sponsorship wouldn’t have interested me, anyway, since I never really had much investment in Lego. It always fell apart every time I built something with it and it cost a fortune to buy. No fun at all. Fred scores a strike in one more bumper and Wilma engages in everyone’s favourite hobby: knitting. The tape cuts out midway through the second half of the show, replaced by mere static, so there’s nothing else for me to talk about. Until the next tape, folks…
