The United States and Iran have resumed direct military conflict over the weekend as a previous 60-day ceasefire completely evaporated. Following the breakdown of the agreement, both nations are now actively insisting they maintain control over the critical Strait of Hormuz waterway. The escalating tensions threaten a vital maritime corridor that transits approximately a fifth of the world's oil supply. In response to Iranian attacks on container ships over the weekend, the United States launched a new wave of military strikes on dozens of sites on July 13. The American military deployed new sea drones during the operations, with CENTCOM releasing footage of three Corsair unmanned vessels destroying an Iranian ship maintenance facility that housed a submarine. Meanwhile, Iran has returned to launching targeted attacks on its neighbors throughout the Gulf region. President Trump announced that the military blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is officially back on, with plans for the United States to charge a 20% toll on eligible cargo.
