Basement Tapes - Medium Build

Medium Build is a local band on the way up. Fronted by singer and songwriter Nick Carpenter, the group includes James Glaives on guitar and keys, Chad Reynvann on bass and James Dommek on drums. Carpenter knows that “making it” in a traditional sense is relatively impossible. “That's so statistically insane to think that,” he said. “So once you can shed that, and just think that this is the thing that I've loved to do since I was a child. And just keep that childlike wonderment about it, there's no losing and there's no failure.” It’s Medium Build’s songs, of course, that are the killer feature. Carpenter grew up listening to Christian music, singing and playing guitar in his local church choir. “Then I was leading [services] sometimes like 10 times in a week,” he said. “Different services, for the youth group, for the big church, for the little kids, for the high schoolers, for the bible study. So I just started playing all the time. And a lot of times you're not amped up so you just have to yell.
