Guadalupe River State Park | Texas State Parks Spring Branch, Texas 💥Overview 💥 We visited Guadalupe River State Park located in Spring Branch, Texas. We go over entrance fee of the park, point of interest, trails and check out some of the campsites. Many folks come here to Guadalupe River State Park to swim, but the park is more than a great swimming hole. Beautiful scenery and colorful history await, just a short drive from San Antonio and Austin. On the Guadalupe River, you can swim, fish, tube and canoe. While on land, you can camp, hike, ride mountain bikes or horses, picnic, geocache, and bird watch. 💥Hit the trail💥 Explore 13 miles of hiking and biking trails. Trails range from the 2.86-mile Painted Bunting Trail to the .26-mile Barred Owl Trail, which leads you to a scenic overlook of the river. 💥Paddle the Guadalupe River💥 Kayak, canoe or go tubing in the Guadalupe River. When the water levels are good there are several options for paddling trips. The park is also the starting point for the new 5-mile Guadalupe River State Park Paddling Trail. 💥Discovery Center💥 Learn more about the park’s natural features at the Discovery Center. Take a closer look at nature using magnifying glasses, microscopes and binoculars. Explore hands-on discovery boxes and exhibits. Ask about borrowing an explorer pack! 💥Honey Creek Tours💥 Explore Honey Creek State Natural Area with a guide. We lead 2.5-hour tours at 9 a.m. every Saturday, and on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Sunday of the month (call the park to confirm). Learn about the history, geology, flora and fauna of this protected area. The Gua­da­lu­pe River is the park's most out­stand­ing natural fea­ture. Imposing bald cypress trees line the banks. On its winding path through the park, the river courses over four natural rapids. Two steep limestone bluffs reflect the river’s erosive power 💥History💥 The name Guadalupe, or Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, has been applied to the present river, at least in its lower course, since 1689, when the stream was so named by Alonso De León. Domingo Terán de los Ríos, who maintained a colony on the river from 1691 to 1693, renamed it San Agustín, but the name Guadalupe continued to be used.
