SEEG and Semiology in Refractory Seizures_Webinar_092821
The use of Stereo-electroencephalography (SEEG) has rapidly increased over the last decade with advances in imaging, source localization processes and robotic assisted procedures. Particularly in evaluating and treating patients with complex refractory seizures, SEEG is a critical tool. It’s proper application involves drilling holes in the patient’s skull and precisely placing multiple depth electrodes into the right locations of the brain to record 100, 200 or more channels of EEG. But before that happens the neurologist must decide where in the brain to locate the electrodes and that requires analysis of seizure semiology, the signs and symptoms of seizure progression, to formulate a hypothesis for SEEG. That is the primary topic of this webinar. the presenter is Dr. Ammar Kheder Dr. Kheder received his medical degree from the University of Damascus. He completed training in medicine and neurology in England and was elected a member of the Royal College of Physicians. He completed two years epilepsy and neurophysiology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by one-year advanced fellowship in SEEG and epilepsy surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Kheder was recruited to the University of Pennsylvania in 2016 to establish SEEG program at Penn. He was then recruited to Emory in 2019 to lead the epilepsy surgery program at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where he currently serves as a director of the epilepsy center. He is an assistant professor of neurology and pediatrics at Emory, with primary interest in surgical epilepsy.
