David Seymour: Bureaucrats need more red tape, not you
Wellington loves regulation because Wellington doesn’t usually pay the bill. David Seymour was pressed today on whether cutting red tape actually helps ordinary New Zealanders. His answer: bad rules create deadweight costs across the whole economy. Cut those costs, and the public is better off – whether the benefit shows up in lower prices, higher wages, faster services, or businesses that can finally get on with the job. Our Regulatory Standards Act is about making politicians and officials justify new restrictions before they dump them on everyone else.
