Shaky Beginnings

This is the story of my motorcycle and me—an introduction not just to a machine, but to a relationship, a rhythm, and a way back to myself. What began as a simple act of riding has become something far more layered: a quiet, steady path toward healing after serious illness. Motorcycling, for me, is not just about motion. It’s about presence. The hum of the engine, the pull of the road, the constant awareness required to ride—all of it draws me out of my own head and into the moment. In that space, there’s less room for worry, less weight from what has been, and more clarity about what still can be. There are different sides to this journey. Some days, it’s about freedom—the open road stretching ahead, offering a sense of possibility I once thought I’d lost. Other days, it’s about control and rebuilding strength, both physical and mental, as I relearn trust in my body and my instincts. Even the quiet rituals—gearing up, checking the bike, setting out—become small acts of intention and care. This is not a story of instant transformation, but of gradual return. Through riding, I’ve found a way to reconnect with resilience, to rediscover joy in movement, and to carve out moments of peace in the aftermath of something life-altering. This is where it begins: with a motorcycle, a road, and the ongoing process of finding my way back to health. Please find a link to my fund raising page below. https://www.justgiving.com/page/shane...
