RC P51-D Mustang 'Duchess Arlene' and FW-190A: Flight Fourty Seven

The FMS 'P 51 Mustang' has a 1400mm wingspan, 80A ESC, runs on a 4S 6400mAh LiPo, spinning a 14 x 8 four blade prop with retracts and flaps. Flight Review: Taking off towards the north, the Mustang was quickly joined in the air by the Fw 190, with Scott at the controls of the Mustang while I flew the Fw 190. Within the first minute there was a close interception as the Fw 190 appeared low on the horizon beneath the Mustang. At around the 1 minute 30 second mark, the Fw 190 moved out to the right side of the Mustang, matching both its speed and altitude for a great moment of precision formation flying. The Mustang looked excellent in the air, performing smooth aileron rolls before tucking back into position with a series of gentle banking turns to rejoin the other aircraft. The size and scale presence of both warbirds made for some impressive airborne footage. Scott's flying style suited the Mustang perfectly, keeping everything smooth and scale with a number of low passes and well coordinated manoeuvres. The formation work remained controlled and consistent throughout the flight, creating several memorable moments as the two aircraft shared the same section of sky. When it came time to land, two approaches were needed. On the first attempt I nearly landed on top of the Mustang with the Fw 190, forcing the Mustang to continue down the runway and go around. The second approach was much more successful, with the Mustang touching down safely after the tarmac. As we lined up after landing, we watched the Fw 190 unexpectedly tip onto its nose, bringing an entertaining end to an otherwise smooth formation flight.
