Toronto Beaches - Apr. 17, 1988. Perambulating on a Sunny Spring Day

Some home video shot by me and my friend David while we take a leisurely stroll along Queen Street in Toronto's east end on a sunny but breezy day in Spring. Starting at my apartment building at Herbert & Queen, the camera captures storefronts and the crowds on the sidewalks and the steady stream of (mostly square) cars crawling along Queen with barely a SUV in sight. At the Garden Gate restaurant, we turn south onto Beech Avenue, passing typical '80s folk on our way down toward the lake. We make a brief stop at El Pueblo, a Mexican themed condos where David practices his Spanish with some local chicas. You can no longer go into this courtyard without a passkey. Too many weirdos getting in I suspect. On the beach near the Balmy Beach Club, we meet up with some 'beach art' artists but unfortunately the wind drowns out most of the conversation. Finally, down on the beach, David tries to make a beer commercial with an old beer can and then some random kid on the beach. The kid, unsurprisingly, reacts like he thinks David is a bit of a nutjob but good naturedly plays along. This video replaces one I posted a few years ago. That one was 4 minutes and in the wrong aspect ratio. This is the Beaches I remember and always picture it still to be, but I would love to hear comments from anyone living in or around the Beaches (or Beach) these days as to how it's changed.
