SVR Spring Steam Gala 2024 - Saturday 20th April (Part 1)

The 2024 edition of the Severn Valley Railway's Spring Steam Gala would be another busy one. We were meant to have LMS Princess Coronation 4-6-2 no. 6233 'Duchess of Sutherland' visiting, however she was unfortunately forced to withdraw. In her place though, we got a very characterful loco: coming from the South Devon Railway, GWR 1366 Class 0-6-0PT no. 1369, a tiny little dock shunter and a very good answer to that oddest of questions: "Is it possible for a steam locomotive to be cute?" I remembered travelling behind 1369 on her home line when on holiday down there as a child once, and she left a big impression on me back then, mostly through the fact that she was a pannier with outside cylinders! Meanwhile, SR West Country pacific no. 21C127 'Taw Valley' which was meant to be under overhaul at this time, was able to be pressed into service for the gala as said overhaul hadn't started yet! Another headline visitor was LBSCR A1X 0-6-0T 'Terrier' no. 72 'Fenchurch' from the Bluebell Railway, who'd be running a local set between Bridgnorth and Hampton Loade. LNER Peppercorn A2 no. 60532 'Blue Peter' meanwhile was still on static display at Kidderminster. This is part 1, taking us from Kidderminster all the way up the line, then watching some trains go by at Eardington and finishing off back at Bridgnorth.
