How to Reverse Engineer ANY remote for Homeassistant

In this video, I take on one of my most challenging smart-home projects yet: reverse engineering a proprietary sub-GHz fireplace remote. After discovering that the official app and voice assistant integrations wouldn’t work with Home Assistant, I set out to decode the RF signal myself — starting with SDR captures, analyzing the protocol in Universal Radio Hacker, and uncovering why tools like the Flipper Zero initially failed. The end result is a fully local, cloud-free fireplace controller that works seamlessly with my smart home — without relying on the original remote or proprietary apps. _______________________ 👋 Follow me → https://linktr.ee/keenontech 📦 Patreon →   / keenontech   ☕ Kofi → https://ko-fi.com/cian911 🙇 Github Sponsors → https://github.com/sponsors/Cian911/d... _______________________ ⚡️ Project links: Github Project: https://bit.ly/3L1Pk4A ESP32 CC1101 3D Case: https://bit.ly/4qhOCio Universal Radio Hacker: https://bit.ly/49qcECd Flipper Toolbox: https://bit.ly/4qwa17X HackRF One: https://greatscottgadgets.com/hackrf/... | https://amzn.to/492JLus Cheaper SDR: https://amzn.to/3YNjz2k _______________________ Content: 00:00 - Intro 01:02 - So what is a sub-ghz remote? 03:10 - How NOT to capture an RF signal 04:27 - How to reverse engineer a sub-ghz remote 11:23 - Custom Everything 13:47 - So why couldnt the flipper capture the signal 15:22 - The build & homeassistant integration 18:05 - Outro _______________________ 📦 Credits Massive shoutout to   / cthuwu_chan   over on reddit for all the help.
