God’s divine plan of redemption unfolds progressively across distinct dispensations, beginning in eternity past with God’s purpose and grace hidden “in Christ” (Eph. 1:4–5). In time past, God dealt primarily with Israel under prophecy—through covenants, the Law, and the promises of a coming Messianic kingdom. This prophetic program culminated in the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ to Israel, followed by His rejection and crucifixion. However, rather than immediately establishing the prophesied kingdom, God revealed a previously hidden “mystery” to the Apostle Paul (beginning in Acts 9), inaugurating the present dispensation of grace in which Jew and Gentile are united into one Body of Christ apart from the Law. This current age continues until the rapture of the Church, after which God resumes His prophetic program with Israel during the tribulation, leading to Christ’s second coming and the establishment of the millennial kingdom on earth. Finally, in eternity future, all things are reconciled under Christ’s headship, with distinct roles for Israel and the Church, fully displaying God’s glory and grace forever.
