Professor Michael P. Collins - In Search of Elegance
Lecture on the history of structural engineering by Professor Michael P. Collins at the University of Toronto. This lecture is recorded from TVO's Best Lecturer Competition, 2005. The lecture was given on September 13, 2005 to the first year Engineering Science class for the CIV102 course. Professor Collins is the Bahen-Tenenbaum Chair of Civil Engineering at the University of Toronto, and is a widely respected researcher who developed the Modified Compression Field Theory to describe shear stress on concrete beams. The MCFT has since been used to form the basis of the Canadian Concrete Code's shear force calculations.
