Wildfires: "That doesn't give you much time to react"

Multiple wildfires continue to burn in the Superior National Forest and Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. As of Thursday, July 15 there are 15 fires actively burning. According to the Superior National Forest, extreme fire conditions occurred across the entire forest area on Monday, and officials say the fires saw wind-growth. Meteorologist Phillip Manvel, with the Minnesota Incident Command Center said there were well over 1,000 lightning strikes on July 6, 2026. Manvel says the fires can move 6 to 7 miles in less than a day. "That doesn't give you much time to react," he says.
