TOPICS FOR THE WEEK Lance machines a Levin Tool out of soft 6061 aluminum plate into an ergonomic tool for installing the spring loaded dials on a Levin micro drill and radius attachments. This is to help Patrick complete the final reassembly of these Levin accessories being put back together and into service again. Patrick disassembles an in the box, brand new Albrecht chuck after he had completely disassembled and fully refurbished another Albrecht chuck of 30 to 40 years in age that did not feel right after rebuilding. The older chuck came installed on our German tapping machine currently being refurbished for return to full operation in the Work Shop. Patrick discovers that the Albrecht chuck rebuild instructions do not match the actual internal findings from both the new and existing chuck disassembled parts. Lance shares common and standard tap and die types many viewers are familiar with and then exposes the viewers to the micro machining world versions of a tap and die with their various holder types. He then prepares the viewer for our smallest automatic tapping machine demonstration, sharing a tap size of 0.5mm (smallest we can tap on this tapping machine) just before turning the machine and a 1.0mm tap over to Patrick where he will show the viewer the next phase of the show. Patrick actually gets to tapping some really small holes. Patrick wired the VFD motor speed controller to the fully refurbished German Hagen & Goebel Type HG-2 tapping machine with the installed and now correctly refurbished Albrecht chuck so he can provide a demonstration on the tapping of some precision 1mm diameter holes. He taps into a brass sample plate, this is a really fascinating. This series follows the adventures of two childhood friends as they rebuild vintage precision micro-machines and tools that will allow them the ability to make their own designed product into a reality but only after they stopped doing work for others on these same machines, with these same precision tools for the past several decades.
