小海線前面展望小淵沢→清里 ＜Cabview Japanrail JR Koumi Line Kobuchizawa → Kiyosato＞

This is a cab view of the Koumi Line, which runs through the heart of Japan, connecting Kobuchizawa Station in Yamanashi Prefecture and Komoro Station in Nagano Prefecture. The Koumi Line is 78.9 km long, but this video focuses on the section between Kobuchizawa and Shinano-Kawakami Stations. This is Part 1, showing the cab view between Kobuchizawa and Kiyosato Stations. The Koumi Line is known as the highest-altitude railway line in Japan. Kiyosato Station, the final destination in this video, is at an altitude of 1275 meters, making it the second highest railway station in Japan (excluding cable cars and ropeways). Nobeyama Station, which will be featured in the next video, is the highest station in Japan. Those seeing this cab view for the first time might find it a little boring, as the tracks run through forests for most of the journey. While the side windows offer views of mountains over 2500 meters high, including the Yatsugatake Mountains, and villa areas nestled within the forest, the scenery around the stations offers a pastoral landscape quite different from other parts of Japan. The area along the Koumi Line is sometimes described as "un-Japanese." I myself love that atmosphere and have traveled through this region many times since my student days. The scenery seems almost unchanged from 50 years ago.
