Friday RODA | Capoeira Bamba 2021 Batizado

3 Years without a Batizado, 2 years since the creation of Bamba, and we couldn't have asked for anything more than this! . This was the first time we've received this many guest Mestres, instructors, students and spectators at Casa de Bamba. The local Capoeira community came together to celebrate one passion: CAPOEIRA. Capoeira was played, taught, was sung and was celebrated in its most beautiful form. The weekend culminated with 3 sold out shows and a belt award ceremony (Batizado) that brought together @bambatoronto and @bambamississauga students to celebrate their achievements. The first Navalha de Ouro awards were given out to celebrate the 10+ years of dedication of @pulganator @missxtinek @cltran86 @shalex_andra @fantasma_cb. (some almost 20 years!) 3 of which reached the level of Graduado/a: Graduada Vagalume Graduado Fantasma Graduado Cabeca And 1 highly deserved and long overdue level of Instrutor: Instrutor Pulga As you could imagine, this was no easy task to pull off. The first in-house event hosted by our team was back in 2005, when our academy was half the size and we first launched. Since then, we've rented out theaters, atriums and gyms for our annual celebration. Bringing everything in-house again was a difficult decision, but one that was well worth it. The classes were on time, unrushed and just felt like "home". But... There is always room for improvement. At the end of it all, we were faced with some challenges which threatened the survival of our Academy. We shut our doors for 2 week, regrouped and now, we are BACK! Capoeira is no stranger to resistance, obstacles, and to oppression and Bamba is a refuge to all of this. BAMBA does not throw in the towel. Bamba doesn't stop. Sometimes, taking a step back is necessary to take two forward. We are BACK and we are ready to continue living the spirit of Capoeira; fight for freedom and expression!
