Alpine Season in Colorado | Wheeler with Josh Tostado

Top to bottom uncut version-   / natehills   We finally got some overdue moisture in the Colorado high country this week, leaving us with perfect dirt and putting a temporary hold on the smoke in Summit County that has been blowing in from the nearby fire burning close to Leadville. Josh Tostado and I knew it would be a disservice to not get out and ride one of the local alpine classics while conditions were perfect. This sort of experience is basically why I still ride mountain bikes, and why Colorado will always be so special in my book. High above the crowds of Breckenridge, Wheeler is accessed by climbing Peak 9 to where it crosses the double track. Starting at 12'500, Wheeler descends nearly 3K back to town and offers some of the best alpine singletrack anywhere. Rather than descending Spruce Creek, which is riddled with hiking traffic in the summer months, we climbed some more across to Wheeler South, ending near the base of Quandary in McCullough Gulch, avoiding the conga train of tourists enjoying our public lands. 3hrs, 4K vert, 20 miles, zero cyclists seen. Man I love the Colorado high country. Josh's Channel ‪@joshtostado6365‬
