Two Sides To A Daydream

When someone asks, "What kind of music is it?', I don't have an honest answer. There are a lot of people that are doing similar types of music production. A lot of people in the same boat, but the music is highly individual. We are in an era when, live music presentations are not as prevalent as they used to be and interaction between musicians is not as common. At the same time, the technology allows for one person to make a highly creative, fully produced musical statement. It's really the emergent form. Less interaction between musicians precludes it from being some types of recognized genres (jazz, blues etc.), but it also takes it out of the realm of art by committee and, thus more personal. There are also soundscape elements that take it in to a different space than traditional composition. I often employ improvisation, but really it's a different type of improv because I'm not reacting to other live players. That said, there are ways to use sample, loops, clips etc. in ways that are near random and inspire improvisational things that wouldn't exist in a traditional format. There are almost infinite possibilities, choices for sound placement, so almost anything can be on the table at any given time. So, the only honest answer I can give to, "What kind of music is it"?, is, it's my music and it will be different next time.
