Mercedes KE-Jetronic - EZL (Timing adjustment)
Mercedes KE-Jetronic - EZL (Timing adjustment) #viralvideo #mercedeskejetronic Watch this video to see if it is possible to adjust the timing on the EZL Mercedes. It is possible in fact to make some adjustments but not by turning the screw on the distributor cap clockwise or counterclockwise. Nothing can be achieved there. If you do it randomly you are just going to make your engine working worse. So, after you align you TDC(OT) mark with the one marking the first cylinder you then you know that your first piston is in its top dead center(TDC) and that's w it should be. Afterwards as you mount the rotor you may not be able to align its groove with the one on the housing of the rotor distributor where the allen screw rests. Then you loosen the allen screw and make fine adjustments in order to align the two grooves. This way you will know that you adjusted your timing. Everything else the car does it over the notches on the flywheel at first and then over the crank position sensor which sends information to the EZL. The EZL then overtakes the control for further adjustments depending on if the engine warm, cold, if it's getting warm, if accelerating... Any further adjustment is possible on the resistance trimming plug, labeled as R16, which can adapt the engine working on a low fuel quality to get the best performance out of the engine. Normally the engine is predicted for the S position that has to be 95 octane gasoline. Concerning the R16 plug, its resistance can be measured, there are many different plugs for the EZL KAT, ECE or RUF engine type. I don't like touching this plug, it's on S and I am perfectly happy how my car reacts. Instagram: / fix_your_mercedes Patreon: / fixyourmercedes TikTok: / mercedeskeje What am I talking about? My topic is the KE-Jetronic injection system which I try to demystify as much as I can. For all of you to understand the system in brief - Developed in 1973 and being mounted into cars up to 1993 as it went in history. But why these to letters!?(KE) K(from German "kontinuierlich" meaning continuos, without interruption) the MECHANICAL injection system on which the fuel starts flowing from the fuel tank sucked by the FUEL PUMP and delivered to the FUEL DISTRIBUTOR which sends fuel to the INJECTORS while the majority of it flows through the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR through its return line back to the fuel tank again. The letter E(electronic) has to mark the electronic sensors (the developement starting from early eighties) which had to inform the ECU about the current state of the engine so that the ECU(Electronic Control Unit) then could create current signal in mAmp(miliampers) and send it to four crucial components for the system - the EHA(the electro-hydraulic actuator,a unit consisting of a magnet, an electromagnet and a baffle plate) which had to fine tune the engine in each of its phases, the ICV(the idle control valve), the unit which was predicted for the engines perfect idle, the X11(the diagnostic socket) where the duty cycle(the ideal mixture) was adjusted and the X11/4(the code reader) - the socket which from any codes were read if present using an OBD1 scanner. An extraordinary injection system which could be fully repaired in your own garage using a multimeter and a pressure gauge only for its fine tuning, together with some common tools.
