How To Put On a Climbing Harness

How to put on a climbing harness correctly is a crucial skill that every beginner climber needs to learn. We give you a clear demonstration of fitting a climbing harness and highlight the key safety points to ensure you stay safe whilst rock climbing. We have focused on highlighting the key safety points for most modern harnesses. If you have a different type of harness please do ensure that you follow the manufactures safety and fitting guidelines.  Harnesses with a manual double back buckle should checked to ensure they are correctly doubled back once fitted.  Open buckles will make an "O" shape with both sides visible and Closed buckles will make a "C" shape with only one side visible once correctly doubled backed.  If you are unsure of how to correctly check your harness then please get appropriate training from a qualified climbing instructor.
