The journalist - the face of BBC One's News At Six since 2007 - was diagnosed in 2014 with stage four bowel cancer, which had spread to his liver and lymph nodes. With messages and thoughts of people that knew him (like Sophie Raworth who named one of her children, Georgia, after him in 2005). He died today aged 67. His birthday was last November. One of my parents, knew one of his parents, a fact I would have pointed out to him if I ever met him, but he, being some years older than me, I never did get the chance to meet him.
