Whose is this song - Bulgarian input
This is the last 5 minutes of the Bulgarian documentary Whose is this Song by Adela Peeva. The documentary commenced with an innocent investigation into the origins of a popular Balkan folk song that has made its way into the folklore of all Balkan nations. Adela Peeva visits several countries in the Balkans to seek input and opinion on the origins of the song. The musicians that were interviewed claimed that the song was originally composed in their respective countries. Most were mildly or cynically dismissive at worst when Adela Peeva mentioned that musicians from a neighbouring country claim the song as their own. Then Adela Peeva visits her native Bulgaria. It is at this point that the clip uploaded here commences. Adela Peeva interviews some Bulgarians on their national holiday in the Strandja region. The mere mention that the song might not be exclusively Bulgarian was enough to fire up the interviewed Bulgarians into making death threats. We see an accordion player threatening to hang on the tree anyone who disputes the Bulgarian origins of the song. We see young people vilifying Turks and Gypsies, claiming that they deserve the knife if they are not Bulgarian. We also witness Gypsies being threatened with police arrest if they continue to commit "sacrilege" with their belly-dancing on a Bulgarian national holiday. The clip ends with Bulgarian military officials showing off their machismo by firing their "big guns" as though they were trying to send a message to all of Bulgaria's enemies and minorities as to who is in charge. In doing so the Bulgarians set their own country ablaze - a powerful metaphor illustrating that hatred is like a bushfire that is difficult to extinguish and causes irreversible damage. If you look carefully you will see that the usual Bulgarian Youtube troublemakers are the ones firing the cannons with their vitriol on Macedonian, Turkish, Romanian, Serbian and other Balkan YT channels. They started a fire of hatred that now cannot be extinguished, yet they blame the targets of Bulgarian racism for the fire rather than themselves.
