Straight from an intimate night at The Back Room in Berkeley — the full quartet digging into the Sinatra classic “I’ve Got the World on a String.” Michael “The Crooner” Carter out front, his warm baritone carrying the room the way this music demands; Ed Johnson weaving that elegant guitar; Franz J. Díaz coloring every bar on piano; and Mike Hallesy anchoring it all on the upright bass. This is the golden-age sound done right — not imitation, but interpretation, by four players who’ve spent a lifetime living inside these songs.
