Alarming Facts about Garlic Variety NARC 1 or G1 | Crop Reformer

National Agricultural Research Council (NARC) has developed a bold bulb variety of garlic which is known as NARC 1 or G1 among the farming community. Internationally it is known as elephant garlic or wild leek (Allium ampaloprasum) the primary habitat of which is mild cool regions of south Europe and Western Asia. It is an introduction and has relatively lesser quality than indigenous garlic varieties like Gulabi Lehsan and local white varieties. In a previous video it was pointed out that this variety is not successful in central and south Punjab. Now I have researched that this variety may be grown successfully on the raised beds but after following some pre requisites. In this video, it has been pointed out that this is such a poor quality variety which is hardly acceptable for SALAN making. It is not easy to change established traditional taste and eating habit. There are some groups of seed mafia which fix its seed price very high in connection with the dirty game of money making without keeping national interests in view. Just for the sac of national interest, it has been emphasized that in the coming years when its produce will be marketed, our farmers may be ruined if its produce could not be accepted in our market. If government fixes its support price, arranges for its value addition through food and or pharmaceutical industry and manages its export, then there is no problem in its cultivation on commercial scale. #NARC G1 #NARC Garlic #CropReformer
