La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland

La Chaux-de-Fonds is a city in western part of Switzerland. The city has a population of 37.000. The elevation is about 1.000 m. La Chaux-de-Fonds is an important city of the watch-making industry. A part of the city was destroyed by a fire in the year 1794. It was rebuilt following a grid street plan. La Chaux-de-Fonds has a UNESCO World heritage status. The famous architect Le Corbusier and the carmaker Chevrolet were born in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Don’t miss Place de l‘Hôtel-de-Ville in the old town. There are many modern buildings like the Espacité Tower along Avenue Léopold Robert.
