Background information Born 5 November 2000 (age 24) Origin Ra'anana, Israel Occupation Singer Years active 2024–present Biography Raphael is the niece of businesswoman Ronit Raphael [he]and comes from Ra'anana, Israel. She spent three years of her childhood living in Geneva, Switzerland. As a child, she listened to rock bands such as Led Zeppelin and the Scorpions, and singers such as Beyoncé and Celine Dion. She began singing professionally in 2023. Raphael was attending the Nova Sukkot Gathering music festival in Re'im on 7 October 2023, when Hamas militants attacked the festival. She hid inside a Death Shelter near kibbutz Be'eri with 50 other people, while sustaining shrapnel injuries from grenades thrown into the shelter. Raphael was one of 11 survivors, having hid under dead bodies for eight hours. In a speech before the United Nations Human Rights Council, she described what she witnessed during the attack. 👉Israel was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 with the song "Hurricane", written by Avi Ohayon, Keren Peles, and Stav Beger, and performed by Eden Golan. The Israeli participating broadcaster, the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (IPBC/Kan), selected Golan as its entrant through the show HaKokhav HaBa (Rising Star), in collaboration with commercial broadcaster Keshet and Tedy Productions, while the song "Hurricane" was internally selected.
