At CdRas, we've already shown you our analysis of the 2020 Renault Clio with its 100 and 130 hp gasoline engines. Today, it's the diesel's turn, specifically the entry-level 85 hp engine. This is the 1.5-liter dCi version, a latest-generation offering that delivers a very understated driving experience. This 1.5-liter engine is designed for intensive use and has been improved to meet new emissions standards by integrating a catalytic reduction system. Our test vehicle is the entry-level diesel model, which delivers 220 Newton-meters of torque for moderate driving that doesn't consume too much fuel. It's paired with a 6-speed manual transmission that keeps the engine speed above 110 km/h. Thanks to improved aerodynamics, this version is particularly efficient for highway driving, a well-balanced option for mixed city and highway driving. The car responds very well to everything asked of it, and its 85 hp is sufficient for comfortable city driving. If you want a bit more dynamism, especially on highways or motorways, the 115 hp dCi option might be more advisable. Dynamically, like the gasoline versions we've analyzed in previous programs, the new Clio gains in comfort and agility compared to previous editions, thanks to its new platform and the new chassis with specific tuning by Renault. Its handling is very predictable and more akin to that of a compact car than a supermini. The steering is more manageable, responsive, and reliable. The increased rigidity of the front axle improves vehicle positioning precision, and the reduced turning radius enhances maneuverability in the city. The optimized suspension improves comfort. Aesthetically, the fifth-generation Clio arrives with new, larger dimensions, an improved, much more attractive and sporty design, and although at first glance the changes may seem minor, it's worth noting that 100% of the body panels are new. The interior has also been completely revamped and now boasts greater quality, functionality, layout, space, and ergonomics. The 2020 Renault Clio comes equipped with the latest in connectivity and an innovative driving system that represents the first step towards autonomous driving, as well as a comprehensive suite of 12 driver assistance systems. This new generation also boasts a 5-star Euro NCAP rating.
