SHURE SM57 - L’Unico Microfono di cui hai BISOGNO… #IconicMicCelebration #shure

In today's video I want to show you how to get the most out of the budget Shure SM57 microphone. For those who don't know it, it is one of the most versatile and most used microphones in the world, present in studios and stages since 1965. It is a low-cost microphone, we are talking about € 110 and if you have never used it you will be surprised by the quality of your recordings. You can use it to record vocals, drums, piano and of course guitar, acoustic or electric. The key concept to understand is that the sound as well as being in the hands is given by the positioning of the microphone. By varying the distance and position of the microphone from the sound source, the sound changes dramatically. In playing the acoustic guitar, the fundamental principle is: 1. The closer we are to the hole, the more the sound will be rich in low frequencies (too many) 2. An ideal position to go without fail is around the XII fret 3. Moving away from the instrument we will have less direct sound and more ambient sound 4 We can also place the mic underneath near the bridge, for a richer high-frequency sound and better pick up the noise of the pick on the strings. To record the electric guitar, place the microphone on the amplifier cone. The principle is this: 1. The closer we are to the coil, to the center of the cone, the richer the sound will be in high frequencies 2. The farther away we go, the louder the low frequencies will be. 3. We can also tilt the microphone to have a mix between low and high frequencies 4. Finally moving away from the cone we will have less direct sound and more ambient sound To record the electric guitar with the Shure SM57 I suggest you position yourself halfway between the coil and the cone to have a good balance between low and high frequencies. You can of course experiment by moving around a bit until you find the sound you have in mind.
