http://www.cn24.tv Thursday, March 18, 2010 | In this edition of Report24: Operation "Mystery." Six Arrests in Ursino Gang Dawn raid by Carabinieri. Seven More Arrests Issued A raid on the Ursino gang by Carabinieri officers from the Reggio Calabria provincial command. Several searches were conducted as part of Operation "Mystery," which, since the early hours of this morning, has led to the arrest of six people and the issuance of seven arrest warrants in Gioiosa Jonica, Siderno, San Luca, Bari, and L'Aquila. The 13 individuals involved, members of the Ursino 'Ndrangheta clan, are facing charges of various kinds, including mafia-style association, murder, extortion, damage, drug possession and trafficking, and fraudulent transfer of valuables. The investigation began with the murder of Pasquale Simari, then 40, committed in Gioiosa Jonica in July 2005. The perpetrator, Tommaso Costa, a 51-year-old from Siderno, was identified. Details were released at a press conference by Reggio Calabria Public Prosecutor Giuseppe Pignatone. Following the disappearance of Mafia Boss Vincenzo Macrì, the victim had re-established ties with members of the Cordì 'ndrina of Locri, a clan that was in strong conflict with the Cataldo clan and therefore also with the Ursino clan. Investigators believe the investigation has definitively established the existence of the 'Ndrangheta criminal organization led by Antonio Ursino, known as Don Totò, 61, operating in Gioiosa Jonica, in the municipalities of the Torbido River valley, with ramifications in Northern Italy, especially in Piedmont, and with ties to the Apulian mafia.
