WaSH Project for the Kokope Community
84 children at the Pentecost Child and Youth Development Center in Kokope were diagnosed with Bilharzia in 2025 after years of relying on polluted water from the White Volta River for drinking, cooking and other daily activities. Waste disposal, runoff water, fecal matter and illegal mining activities had made the river unsafe for consumption. Families were also forced to travel long distances in search of clean water, affecting children’s school hours and limiting economic activities in the community. To help solve the challenge, Compassion International Ghana in partnership with the Pentecost Child and Youth Development Center in Kokope installed a water treatment plant, four 10,000-litre water tanks and four handwashing sinks for the community. The project was completed within nine months and officially handed over to residents in April for use. Compassion International Ghana believes access to clean and safe water is essential to the health, growth and wellbeing of children and youth, and remains committed to supporting communities with the infrastructure needed to improve lives. Below is a video highlight from the handing over ceremony in Kokope. #Compassion #CompassionGhana
