The hipster drummers of the world have been championing giant hihats over the last couple of years. Is this just a dumb fad, or is there something to it? Let’s find out! We’ll end up comparing a 20” pair of hihats with a 14” pair, and we’ll even add a little extra something to the 20s to enhance their sound. We’ll also compare pairs of 16” & 18” hats to see how those compare. The frequency differences resulting from the varying sizes are pretty fascinating, so we discover some important reasons why you may actually want to consider using larger hihats.
