IBM BOB vs VS Code - Create some testing data for me

Today… we’re doing something every IBM i developer secretly loves but never admits out loud: we’re generating fake data to fill a test file. And instead of typing it all by hand like it’s 1994 and we’re wearing a pager… I’m letting two AI-powered IDEs battle it out. On the left: IBM BOB the new kid on the block with swagger, confidence, and a suspicious love of semicolons. On the right: VS Code the cool, modern editor that claims it can do everything, including making your coffee. The challenge: I’m asking both of them to create a full SQL script that imagines a bunch of realistic test data for an IBM i table. Names, dates, numbers, nonsense - the whole buffet. Will BOB generate a beautifully structured SQL INSERT script worthy of a Redbook? Will VS Code hallucinate a customer called ‘Bob McTesterson’ who lives at ‘123 Fake Street’? Or will both of them surprise us? Let’s fire up the editors, throw them the same prompt, and see which one gives us the better test data. BOB or VS Code - who’s the real MVP of imaginary data? --- Hey there, IBM i programmers! Welcome to my channel where I try to cover AS400, iSERIES and IBM-i topics like programming, code refactoring, modernization, and technical things like OS updates, RPG subfiles or SQL stored procedures. All on the IBM i system, focusing on practical steps to improve your development work. You will find tips on modernization, GIT integration for source control, and tools like Project Bob for refactoring legacy code. This content is designed for beginners learning iSeries basics or experienced developers optimizing Power Systems performance.
