In recent years, from 2014 to 2018, the number of human trafficking cases in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province has continued to increase. In 2017, NTT Province ranked highest among all Indonesian provinces for human trafficking cases, with 137 cases recorded from January to August. This fact is certainly very concerning for the entire community and the NTT Provincial Government. This article aims to understand 1) the reality of human trafficking in NTT Province, 2) the factors causing human trafficking in NTT Province, and 3) solutions to address human trafficking in NTT Province. This article uses a literature review method utilizing secondary data from various relevant sources. Human trafficking cases in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province have increased year after year, with 1,667 female migrant workers (TKW) victims of human trafficking in the province between 2015 and mid-2016. Low human resources, resulting from low education levels, and economic challenges such as poverty and high unemployment, are the main causes of human trafficking in NTT Province. To address this, concrete solutions are needed, including preventive measures, empowerment, and improvements to the employment system. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD stated that the case of Human Trafficking (TPPO) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) is categorized as "very urgent." "It's a serious emergency, because based on reports received from 2020, 2021, and 2022, approximately 1,90 bodies have been returned to Indonesia, and the majority are from East Nusa Tenggara," Mahfud said in Maumere, Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, on Wednesday (May 31), as reported by Antaranews. Mahfud came to NTT as part of a working visit and also led the Pancasila Day commemoration ceremony on Thursday (June 1) in Ende Regency. Mahfud admitted that he was appointed by President Jokowi to form a special operations task force for human trafficking. According to Mahfud, Jokowi wants short-term and medium-term handling of human trafficking cases.
