I didn’t expect to find this in this ghost town in ruins, destined to disappear... Vincocaya, a ghost town in ruins located in the Arequipa region of Peru 🇵🇪, was once a thriving place thanks to the railway 🚂 that connected Arequipa with Puno. Founded between 1874 and 1875, this town was vital for railway transportation, trade, and regional connections, as the train station was a key point for travelers and merchants. Over time, the construction of new roads and more affordable transportation methods 🚗 led to the abandonment of the railway, which caused Vincocaya to gradually disappear. The only remnant of its past is a small church built in 1948, which is also now in ruins ⛪. Despite the abandonment, some aspects of the town remain standing, like its old tombs in the local cemetery ⚰️, and the presence of animals, like vicuñas 🦙, that frequently visit the area in search of food. This forgotten town reflects the transformation of many places that, for various reasons, were left behind and are now doomed to disappear.
