En 1921, los Apicultores Comerciales Hacían una Sola Cosa en Julio — Y Fue lo que Salvó la Cosecha

In 1921, Commercial Beekeepers Did One Thing in July — And It Saved the Harvest Your strongest colony in July can produce a disappointing harvest in August. Not because of disease, not because of queen failure, not because of bad luck. Because of a population imbalance: the colony enters the August influx with too many nurse bees committed to brood rearing and too few active foragers to capitalize on the available nectar. In this video, we revisit the specific intervention that American commercial beekeepers in the 1910s and 1920s implemented every July to solve precisely this problem. You'll learn why colony size in July doesn't determine its productive capacity in August, how the lag between peak colony population and peak foraging capacity works, the biological logic behind redistributing capped brood across three simultaneous levels, why specifically capped brood and not open brood, the 14-21 day window and the nurse-to-forager transition arithmetic that justifies it, why the local botanical calendar is an essential component of the technique, the documented results (20-35% increase in short flows), and the conditions under which it shouldn't be applied. One thing in July. Fifteen minutes per colony. Twenty to thirty-five percent more honey in August. Biology hasn't changed since 1921. Were you familiar with this technique? Have you used it or something similar? Tell us in the comments. Subscribe for more historically grounded bee biology. Note: These are historical practices interpreted through biological research.
