Non-binary: Weder Frau noch Mann! | Wie sehr bestimmt das Geschlecht mein Leben? Folge 5

Non-binary: This means that someone cannot or does not want to classify themselves into the binary gender system of men and women. #Nonbinary or genderqueer – that's exactly what Cato is. Cato doesn't want to be categorized as "man" or "woman" and gives me an insight into life as a non-binary person. At first glance, at Cato's house, you might think a girl lives here – at least if you think in terms of gender stereotypes… But Cato doesn't see it that way; it's simply things and colors that she likes. Cato also has a clear opinion on makeup: Why should only women be allowed to do that? Everyone should just do what they want – regardless of gender! And Cato applies this attitude to other areas of life: Cato doesn't want to be pigeonholed or have to conform to any stereotype. What I find really difficult when talking to Cato is how do you approach a non-binary person? Are there specific non-binary pronouns? Or do you just leave them out altogether? Cato explains to me that many genderqueer people like to be addressed as "she*er," but most find "it" an insult. But Cato himself doesn't care about pronouns. After this insight, Cato and I head off to a secondhand store to do some shopping. And if you're wondering what kind of clothes Cato prefers as a non-binary person, check out my new episode: "Non-binary: Neither Woman nor Man!" By the way: Since December 2018, it's also been possible to register as "diverse" in the birth register. However, this requires a medical certificate or the person must swear under oath that they have a "variation of gender development." This makes it difficult for people like Cato to have their entry changed. The law has been criticized by many LGBTI activists: "This law is an absolute minimum solution and does not meet the needs of those affected at all," says Moritz Prasse from the campaign group "Third Option." More information can be found in this interview: https://www.br.de/puls/themen/leben/d... Episode 5 of the question "How much does gender determine my life?" This is The Question: There are these big, tricky questions that have no easy answers. How do I cope with death? What's so exciting about a fetish? Should I be afraid of psychiatric care? I search for answers to these questions, week after week, for you. I'm not satisfied with simple answers - I prefer to experiment, dig deeper, and go where things get uncomfortable. I don't ask experts; above all, I'm there: in the psychiatric hospital, at the fetish party, in the rescue helicopter.
