A dispute over attacks on journalists in Erfurt has escalated in the Bundestag. The AfD wanted to request a topical debate on the alleged manhunt against reporters on the sidelines of its party conference. However, the Bundestag administration prohibited them from using the term "manhunt." What followed was a heated exchange between the parliamentary groups about political violence, press freedom, and the question of what standards should be applied. AfD parliamentary group manager Götz Frömming accused the other parties of deliberately downplaying the documented attacks in Erfurt: despite video evidence, the term "manhunt" had been banned. An appearance by Green Party politician Katrin Göring-Eckardt added fuel to the fire: she drew a historical parallel between the AfD party conference in Erfurt and the Nazi Party conference in nearby Weimar in 1926.
