When we cut ourselves off from our ability to feel (this is my definition of trauma), we cut off our capacity for higher levels of consciousness, connection and super-intelligence. All of us exist somewhere on a spectrum of being feeling-avoidant...unless you’re Buddha or Jesus 😉 While we think of painful feelings as the ones we'd typically avoid, joy has actually been named the most vulnerable emotion. We protect ourselves from whatever makes us feel the most vulnerable, whether that’s joy, love, connection and belonging, or rage, heartbreak, shame and despair. While we are unique in our life stories and specific adaptations to painful events (and the ways we choose to avoid uncomfortable feelings), we all exist to some degree on a spectrum between two poles: numb (unfeeling) and flooded (overwhelmed by feeling). You can discover where you fall on this spectrum by doing fascia release and observing what you feel + your reactions to what you feel. The goal is presence, consciousness and the capacity to feel everything that flows through you on a daily basis with equanimity and objectivity - neither suppressing the feelings, nor reacting to them. Becoming conscious and self aware is the first step towards self mastery in this realm. Fascia release can be a powerful practice to help you on the healing and self mastery journey.
