Grandpa Yotso is Watching... A true story of hope, freedom and the unbreakable spirit of Bulgaria. This musical film is inspired by "Grandpa Yotso is Watching" (Дядо Йоцо гледа), one of the most beloved stories by Ivan Vazov (1850–1921), often called the Patriarch of Bulgarian Literature. The story is based on a real historical figure. Grandpa Yotso lost his eyesight at the age of 64, during the years of Ottoman rule. Although he could no longer see the mountains, the rivers or the people around him, he never lost faith that one day Bulgaria would be free again. When Bulgaria finally regained its freedom in 1878, Yotso experienced something he had dreamed of for many years: he could touch the uniform of a Bulgarian official, feel the national coat of arms with his own hands, and hear the words he had waited a lifetime for: "Bulgaria is free." Years later, another miracle arrived in the Iskar Gorge. Engineers carved a railway through the solid rock of the Balkan Mountains, connecting the country with one of the greatest engineering achievements of its time. Every morning Grandpa Yotso stood beside the railway. He was not waiting for the train. He was waiting for Bulgaria. This film is a respectful musical interpretation of that timeless story, created as a tribute to Ivan Vazov, the breathtaking beauty of the Stara Planina Mountains, the Iskar Gorge, and to everyone who keeps history alive.
