Ultimate DJI Avinox e-bike test? Unno Mith Vs Megamo Reason

This could be the ultimate DJI Avinox e-bike test, as two of the hottest e-mtbs go head to head. The Unno Mith and Megamo Reason are both super-capable 160mm travel e-mountain bikes, both have DJI Avinox M1 motors, slender 800Wh internal batteries, and both can sustain 1000 watts peak power output for unrivalled assistance while still maintaining decent range. At approximately 22kg, with our Maxxis DH casing e-bike tyres fitted, these flag-ship models deliver a high-powered ride experience without the bulk and weight of traditional full power e-bikes. That’s not to say the Unno Mith Pro and Megamo Reason CBR 01 are identical though. Yes, they both get full carbon frames with SRAM AXS Transmission drivetrains, but the Megamo rolls on 29in wheels, while the Unno Mith gets an MX setup with a smaller 27.5in rear wheel. Megamo also balances suspension travel front and rear with a 160mm Fox 36 fork, to save weight and give a more trail focused ride character. Unno, on the other hand, runs a burly 170mm Fox 38 for the full enduro experience. In terms of sizing, both bikes are currently available in three options. Magamo runs a traditional sizing protocol with the Reason available in small, medium and large frame sizes, all with proportional chain stay lengths to help balance handling. Unno also offers three unique frame sizes, running from S1 to S3, where the S3 gets a 490mm reach measurement, which is 10mm shy of the 500mm reach on the size L Megamo. The key takeaway here is that both brands need to add an XL or S4 size option for taller riders. Both bikes also have really low BB heights. So if you're looking to tap into the power output of the Avinox e-bike system and do lots of technical climbing, you’ll need to look elsewhere, as you’ll be forever clipping pedals on both of these bikes. Point them down hill however and both deliver, but the Unno takes the edge in terms of outright performance and speed. The stiffer chassis and burlier Fox 38 fork boost confidence on rougher terrain, while the rear suspension offers a lighter initial touch for improved traction under braking. That’s not to say the Megamo Reason is a slouch on the descents though. The proportions and balance of the size L frame really enhance rider confidence, but the overall feel of the bike is a touch too flexy and vague for pushing really hard. Even if the geometry encourages you to do just that. Which is why we think the Reason would be better with a 170mm travel Fox 38 or RockShox Zeb fork as standard. Also the Megamo desperately needs better tyres straight out of the box. So the Unno Mith Pro takes the win in this head-to-head test. But it’s not perfect either. The BB height is super low, so pedal strikes when climbing are all too common. So the addition of a shock flip chip would easily cure that and we’d also like to see Unno introduce a size S4 for taller riders. If you’re not interested in technical climbing though, the Unno Mith Pro is a first-rate e-enduro bike. And while not cheap, given the specification and ride quality, the Pro mode it’s definitely competitively priced.
