Solo Kayak Camping Adventure on Michigan’s Platte River

This is my annual solo Michigan river thru-paddle and camping adventure — this time, it’s the Platte River. I’ve been waiting all season for this trip. The truck is loaded with fresh farm veggies for some incredible campfire meals, and I’ve got 350 miles between home and one of Michigan’s most beautiful rivers. The Platte River flows through the heart of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore — crystal clear water, world-class fishing, scenic and serene surroundings, and it all ends right into Lake Michigan. I made a quick stop at Cabela’s to grab a few lures since the salmon run is on and the river’s full of trout, but the fish weren’t biting this time. Instead, it’s all about peaceful paddling, riverside campfire cooking, and exploring this wild stretch of northern Michigan. At the end, I’ll preview the next episode — the Sleeping Bear Dunes climb and some inland lake fishing while camping in the state forest on my way home.
